Tony Laing, a former METCO student himself, has been hired to be Wayland’s next director of the program

WAYLAND – The school district has hired a new METCO director to replace Mabel Reid-Wallace who will be leaving the job on Friday – three months earlier than previously announced.

Tony Laing, now director of the Men of Color Initiative at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, starts in Wayland on Aug. 1.

“I’m excited (to come to Wayland),” said Laing in a phone interview. “It’s a great opportunity to work within a community of students and parents committed to educational outcomes for students of color.”
